These series of portraits were made at Lama Punji village in Jaflong, Sylhet.

They explore the Khasi community’s intrinsic relationship with nature.

Before there was time, there was the dark ocean, endless in all directions. The

unexpected appearance of matter, light or conscious thought, triggered the

birth of life. Gradually all that exists began to evolve from the formless ocean.

By the ocean, where time is distilled to a primal rhythm evocative of our

origins, one can feel the presence of the greater, indefinable chaos one was

born from and will disappear into.
